ABS
ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) is an amorphous polymer obtained by the emulsion or mass polymerisation of acrylonitrile and styrene in the presence of polybutadiene.
The styrene monomer provides good processability to ABS, acrylonitrile lends rigidity and thermal and chemical resistance, while butadiene makes the product tougher and more resilient, even at low temperatures. By changing the proportions of the ABS components and adding specific additives, different grades with particular properties can be produced.
Main features are high level of toughness and i mpact resistance and is used in sectors such as cars, household appliances, toys, furniture and household goods
Applications:
- Automotive
- Electrical appliances
- Furniture
- Plumbing sector
- Toys
- Medical
Processing technologies:
- Injection moulding
- Sheet and profile extrusion
